Project V Day Ten: Acorn Hat

It sits on an acorn's head and you can take it off...it's an acorn hat.  I don't know the proper term for it and to be honest if I did I'd still call it an acorn hat.

Siamese acorn hats.

Day Ten grid.  I'm beginning to ponder the finishing touches for this work.  It's super delicate in that pastel powder dust is sitting on the surface - it needs to be protected.  The fragility of a drawing...oh how  this topic has weighed so heavy on mind for years.  I love it and hate it.  I absolutely adore to make a  drawing durable and permanent by pouring resin or a clear coat over it but not for this one.  My thoughts - a sheet of plexiglass fixed to the front.  It's what would be used to cover an insect specimen drawer.

Project IV Day 18: Turkey Vulture (again)

I can't stop with the Turkey Vultures. I think I might have been one in a past life. Is that why I'm such a dirtbag ?

Project VII-Day Thirty: Grass

And that is a wrap! Day Thirty's photo was taken at Oliver Nature Park in Mansfield, TX earlier this summer. The labeling of each drawing evolved during the project. In the bottom left-hand corner is the sequence number of the drawing within the 30-day time frame and the location of where the reference photo was taken. My take away from this particular project was having the opportunity to spend more time with a special moment I had in nature. It allowed me to marvel at the intricacies of the plants and animals around us.

Day 7: Roseate Spoonbill, 12x9"

Roseate Spoonbill, you are one interesting looking dude. Their deep pink coloring is similar to a flamingo. They use their unusual beak to feed on crustaceans by swinging it from side to side as it steadily walks through the water.
